IP Scanner Home App Reviews

ANOTHER (!) Brief note on developer responsiveness

Last week I submitted an enhancement request to allow choice of export format in the Export dialog (it had been hidden away in Preferences... where I didnt expect it and couldnt find it). Well, this week, I see this new version implementing that feature, probably in response to my request! This is what I was after. Thanks, Guys!

Dont waste your money

Dont waste your money. This app only does up to 20 devices for $5 and they want another $15 to do more.

Does exactly what I need

To "help" my kids limit their Internet time I use time based access on my Airport Extreme. This utility helped me to easily identify all of the devices on my network and make sure that the ones that always need access (like my home server) were setup correctly. I also like the port scanning capability to search for vulnerabilities. All in all, for the money this did everything I needed and more.

Smurf DoS

My router is logging this apps scan as a Smurf DoS attack! Why?!

Pro upgrade too expensive

This software limits you to displaying 21 devices. Everyone needs to consider how easily your network can connect to 21 devices or more. I have directv thats 4 devices right there. 4 iPhones, 4 Macbooks, 2 desktops, 1 wii, 2 xboxes, 1 ps3, 1 sony blue ray, 1 mac mini, 2 tablets………. and I also run parallels virtual machines that show up on the network and put me way over 21 devices. You can do a "pro version" in-app upgrade to display over 21 devices BUT ITS $24.99!!!!!!! If you are a techie geek like me this software may not suite your needs.

Nice little app, but too limited for "home" use

Nice little app but home version $4.99, "Pro" version is 5x more at $24.99. I am definately a "home" user and have ~25 or so devices on our home network (adds up quick with iPhones, iPads, networked TVs, game systems, Nintendo DSs, etc.) , yet the app will only show a maximum of 21 devices unless I upgrade to "Pro". Im not a "Pro" and shouldnt need to pay 5x more to see a few more devices. You really need to change the limit, it is not in-line with todays "home". $5 I would pay, for $25 no thanks.

Works well

Works quickly. Leave it running and it will gradually log all the gadgets that periodically connect to the network. One of the best features is the ability to assign a custom name to a device like "Pams iPhone". Definitely worth the cost.

Crashes on Launch

When I first downloaded and PAID for the app, it worked well as I set it up with custom names. However, after shutting it down, it no longer works when I launch it. It starts up, shows one IP address sometimes, and then crashes with an error report option to apple. iMac with Mavericks, not good!

Crash

This App crashes evertime I try to use it.

Doesn’t really work.

Sort of works. But if you go through the effort of putting names on all your devices, chances are the database will become corrupted and you’ll have to wipe it and lose all your work. And sometimes it doesn’t find any devices at all. Not pleased after paying the $25.

IP Home Edition

Home Edition states that it support identity and customizating up to 21 devices and I can still only get 7. Not worth spending the $$

Pay for it Twice ?

I already purchased it for my iPad and iPhone now to get it on my mac I have to pay for it again? Now i wasted this $4.99 thanks…….

Upgrade fail

Perhaps if they fix the in-app upgrade feature so that it actually worked, I might be persuaded to try the Pro version.

Got old LaserJet IP address thanks to this app.

When configuring my trusted old LaserJet 2100M, rather than print configuration pages to get the IP (and starting over if it wasn’t showing…), I fired up IP Scanner Home and got it right away. Easy. Such a useful app. Love the ‘Export Current Scan As..’ option. Also excellent on iOS.

Adequate

Nice tool for the price. I purchased to have a tool to see what my network was doing since the Apple Airport Extreme doesnt show anything except what is connected wirelessly. This did the job, but there are a couple of behavioral problems that Im not overly fond of: 1) It would be nice if there was a manual scan button instead of having it continuously scanning every minute. 2) Get rid of that stupid dropbox interface. Something (maybe the dropbox functionality) in this software causes a pairing message to come up on my TV. If the software had manual scan capability this may not be a problem, or if the dropbox interface causes this - again - get it out of ipscanner. Its extremely annoying to have a pairing message pop up on the TV while watching a movie, or your favorite TV show. Had it not been for the nuisance factor, I would probably give this a 5 star rating.

simple accurate and easy to use

I don’t NEED this app, but I use it so much because it makes network awareness so easy. I will never have a device that I rely on daily that doesn’t have it loaded. I know how do get all the network info that it sends me on a single screen, but when it is this easy why would I bother, I just use IP Scanner! A great app, a great value and it makes my daily network life easier.

It works just fine!

For me it works! I had to listed all the users IP’s ( all printers and computers in the office I work ) it works like a charm!!! Thanks! *I got different apps here, but this is the only one how give me the entire list of IP’s used.

Devices limit extremely lower than previous version

This had been a great and useful app. But the newest version has limited its usefulness. I had the Home edition, and before updating to the most recent version, it listed a lot more devices (not sure what the limit was, I never exceeded it). Now, however, it is limited to 21 devices. I understand the limits, but feel it is not fair for the developer to lower the limit so drastically between versions. With this update the app is not what I purchased originally.

Cheesy, limited to just 21 devices or so…

Seems to work but why make such a horrible version. Just limited to 21 devices!!! Why am I paying for what is basically a stripped down TRIAL version. ONE STAR

Great App

It does what I need it to do. Great app.
