I have recently channged my ISP because they kept upping the cost but not the data rates. Of course that created havoc on my home network. Replacing the router, new wireless access and for some reason problems with some static and dynamic IP addresses. This tool was an easy way to get a look at the network and see what was going on. I really liked the fact that I could assign my own names to devices, like IP Camera’s by location, which makes the tool very easy to use once it is set up. You can also assign an icon for the device… Great if you are a visual person. Some other tools seem to think that they need a lot more features. And, I have used them on occassion to debug problems. But,they are not all kept up-to-date and my old tool just refused to work on MacOS 10.10.1. I recommend you try the free version, if you have less than seven devices, it is sufficient. But the home version is pretty inexpensive, seems to be kept updated, and handles 22 devices, more than enough for most home users. It provided the basic functionality to debug simple problems like IP address conflicts. Value for the small cost is great.

After having been stimied by repeated IP duplicate assignments (it’s impossible with Apple’s rudimentary Airport reporting to get a holistic view of ALL devices floating around one’s Wifi island, especially if you use a switch to expand ports etc) I stumbled across IP Scanner. And would you know it, within 5min I found the errant devises “fighting” stubbornly over the same IP address, tied one down to it’s own perm.IP and never had a problem again. This alone was worth it! I use it regular to hunt for the proverbial disapperaing IP web cam, various NESTs, etc. It’s firmly in my tool box now. Great tool. Can fully recommend it.

The good thing is that this app does exactly what it say. Thanks to IScanner Home I regularly find a stray PC or two that somehow has hacked their way in to my LAN after a few days so kicking them off makes me feel much better. I keep ISH running and check it every half hour. It’s cheap insurance...

Good tool, but I think that the 24-device limitation for the “home” version is silly— the type of person who is going to use a tool like this is going to have more than 24 devices now days, with everything from light bulbs to thermostats grabbing IP numbers. (I have over 50 devices on my home network that have IP numbers.) I think a more generous alotment is in order for paid users. $10 for the app is fair, but another $25 to remove the device restriction seems a bit steep for home users, especially since this is, for the most part, a graphical alternative to a free tool like nmap. That said, the app works as advertised, and supports adding custom icons, names, and detailed notes for each device entry, which is handy. It allows you to generate reports in a variety of formats, and can alert you when new devices join the network. I find this tool useful, and it is stable and does its job. The UI could be improved, and I wish the iCloud syncing (neat feature, by the way) allowed me to share data with iOS devices using the iOS version of the tool (which is also a good app.)

I tried the free version and it stopped after 6 devices. Bought the home license, and it stops after 21 devices. This is unacceptable and I’ll be trying everything I can to get my money back!

This has been a very useful utility. Upon installation of 3.4.1 I cannot get this app to start. It states that it will run with OSX of 10.6 and later.

I love this app and used it all the time, but there seems to be something wrong with the newest version. It flat out will not load at all. says there is no license. Please fix the app, I need it asap, please.

I have used this product many times to locate a device on the network. I like the way it gives you the IP and MAC addresses and that you can add your own name for all your devices. I have had no problems while using in many times.

I have a guest network and a primary one. This app does not let you choose and does not even tell you which network it’s reporting on. And it crashes a fair amount. Needs serious improvement.

My home has 14 connected devices. This app picked up just the local machine it was run on and the router. It was a complete waste of $10.

When I decided to buy the app, I didn’t realize that the screen shots shown on the app store were from the Pro version. I don’t like being deceived, so I’m not going to buy the pro version. Fool me once... The less expensive versions are so limited that they aren’t useful. It clearly only uses one thread to do the scan, it took nearly a minute to get 21 IPs scanned. The competition scans the whole 256 IP subnet in 2-3 seconds. There are far cheaper alternatives that give you mostly the same functionality.

Total garbage. I had paid for an upgrade and now have a new device limit imposed by the new “Home” version. Customers who upgraded standard version should have received the Pro version. Hardly matters because the app crashes constantly. Within about ten seconds, every time. The customer support forums are locked. The support people have not logged in there since November. AVOID!! And Apple how about a little quality control on the app support rules.
